Statement
(Nancy
Bjorge, July 2006)
My work is evolving as I discover new ways to express my ideas while
holding onto special traditions that inspire me. I am fascinated
by the endless possibilities of using the traditional art of paper
folding in a contemporary context. However, I am not bound by them.
I no longer limit myself to just paper-other materials, like feathers,
leather, glass and beads, are finding their way into my designs.
I continue to explore color and forms, increasingly in a three-dimensional
format, and am moving more in the direction of mixed media. Additionally,
I am also excited about creating something precious with very common,
everyday materials, such as found objects.
The
purpose of my artwork is to present my search for an expansion of
the beauty as I perceive it in the traditional art of paper folding.
My inspiration comes from seeing, hearing and feeling the beauty
in the spirit and energy of things around me, as well as looking
into myself.
